Experimenting with techniques, methods and the “looks” they produce, have always been integral to Sven’s empirical approach to Art. Sven started dabbling with common household objects to make his very first compositions. It has evolved over the past two to three decades through multiple media explorations into primarily his current Oil Paintings and Collages. Sven’s paintings use principles of cohesion and eutectics (temperature based flow properties) in making multilayered, time-deferred oil applications of graded viscosities on prepared canvas. This chemical approach imparts a distinct and inimitable 3D geometry to his work. A Collector once put it plainly: A “Sven” is only and always a “Sven”! Thus to protect his works for the Collector, each painting comes very simply and elegantly framed and shielded with conservation glassing.
Please note: Dates on the Paintings are the rough “completion points”. Often the “work” began much prior. For example, the Landscapes may have dates ranging 2022 – 2024, but their actual work began 2015-2017 -ish. This has everything to do with a. the techniques and layers, and particularly the drying time between applications and b. the artist’s health issues….
